How to Support Your Results After Botulinum Toxin Treatment

Making the Most of Your Treatment

So, you've had your botulinum toxin treatment — wonderful! Now comes the part that many people overlook: the aftercare. Looking after yourself in the hours and days following your appointment can make a real difference to how smoothly everything settles and how comfortable your experience is. Here's what you need to know.

The First Few Hours

The period immediately after your treatment is the most important time to be a little mindful of your habits. There are a few simple things we'd recommend during this window:

  • Stay upright — try to remain upright for at least four hours after your appointment and avoid lying flat.
  • Avoid touching or rubbing the treated area — as tempting as it might be, leave the area well alone to allow everything to settle naturally.
  • Skip strenuous exercise — give your body a rest for the remainder of the day and avoid any vigorous physical activity.
  • Avoid alcohol — it's best to steer clear of alcohol for at least 24 hours after your treatment.

The Days That Follow

Over the next few days, most people get on with their normal routines without any issues at all. That said, there are still a few things worth bearing in mind as your treatment continues to settle:

  • Avoid excessive heat — saunas, steam rooms, sunbathing, and very hot baths are best avoided for around 48 hours.
  • Be gentle with skincare — continue your usual routine, but avoid any harsh exfoliation or facial massage directly over treated areas for a couple of weeks.
  • Stay out of direct, intense sunlight — and if you are outdoors, always wear a broad-spectrum SPF. Your skin will thank you for it regardless!

What to Expect as Results Develop

It's perfectly normal to feel a little uncertain in those first few days. Results from botulinum toxin treatments don't appear overnight — they typically begin to show after a few days and continue to develop over the following two weeks. Everyone's experience is slightly different, and individual results will vary.

You might notice some mild redness, swelling, or small bumps at the injection sites. These are entirely normal and usually resolve very quickly on their own. Minor bruising can occasionally occur at the injection site, which is also nothing to worry about.

General Wellbeing Matters Too

It might sound simple, but looking after your overall health supports your skin and wellbeing in a big way. Staying well hydrated, eating nourishing food, getting good sleep, and managing stress all contribute to how your skin looks and feels in the longer term.

A Note on Sun Protection

We can't say this enough — a good daily SPF is one of the best habits you can build for your skin, whatever treatments you're having. It helps to protect your results and keeps your complexion looking its best for longer.
